The FamilySAFE was the first complete prefabricated steel saferoom to pass all testing at Texas Tech. A person was inside the unit during testing.
The Family Safe Original
Strongest safe room in the industry. Fill 1/4" or 3/16" plate steel rounded at a large 2" radius in the corners for strength and safety. Thick walled 2"x2" square tubing is used for our "NASCAR Type" safety cage that runs throughout the unit. According to the engineers, this unit is capable of supporting over 100,000 lbs. stacked on top of it (about 25 mid-sized cars). The door uses commercial grade class-one stainless steel deadbolts to hold it secure from the storm but also acts like a vault or storage cabinet for valuables or firearms. The unit is bullet resistant to all normal handguns and shotguns (class-three), and features a stainless steel sight-glass for viewing the storm or intruders.

The FamilySAFE Basic
This is an F5 rated unit. It still has the famous 1/4" plate steel door with the same safety features as the original unit, except that it uses two 3/4" cold rolled pins and one deadbolt. The unit has square corners instead of the large rounded radius corners of th eoriginal unit. The inside of the unit still uses the 2"x2" square tubing. The skin thickness is 3/16" but is stilll impossible to penetrate by anything a tornado can throw at it. We feel this is the best unit made today for the price.
