Deciding to purchase a safe room is a great step in investing in home security. Location & Size

The first aspect to consider is the location and size of the safe room. People will want to find a location that is easily accessible and in a central location within the home in case of emergencies. The size will be determined based on how many people could possibly use the safe room simultaneously. When considering size, remember that storage is a necessity for food, water, and other equipment, so don’t forget to factor that into the decision.

Materials

The materials used to construct a safe room are key. The walls, ceiling, and floor should be made of reinforced concrete, steel, or other durable materials. Steel should be used for the door and be equipped with a deadbolt lock.

Ventilation

Another consideration when designing a safe room is the ventilation system. If there are plans not to have a window in the room, the system becomes more of a necessity to circulate air and reduce the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Comfort

There are great safe room ideas that enhance the comfortability of the whole layout. If people foresee natural disasters leaving them in a safe room for a prolonged amount of time, they should add different amenities. Consider bringing a bed, TV, or other items to make the space more livable.

There are many things to consider once you have purchased a safe room. Our safe room ideas are simply suggestions, but we understand the important role they play in a secure and proactive room.
